PATRICE WILSON

STAGE DIRECTOR

Patrice Wilson is a classically trained director/actor from a top tier university in America (Carnegie Mellon University) Six-year rigorous acting training, and an MFA in Classical Theatre.

During twenty years abroad, she developed a breadth of experience in the Performing Arts as an actress director and drama educator. She was privileged to work with some of the world’s leading theatre professionals, performed and directed on and Off Broadway and in Regional Theatres throughout the USA. She has a broad range of industry experience, working in the capacity of casting director, producer, and drama facilitator for at risk youth in New York prisons, drug rehabs. Patrice also worked for five years as a creative consultant, directing advertising and corporate marketing materials for television and radio in Australia.

Patrice has had an eclectic career and also has a background as a Drama Educator. Since returning to Australasia, has been employed as Senior Drama Tutor at tertiary Institutions such as Northland Polytechnic, Te Wananga O Aotearoa, UCOL and Excel School of the Performing Art and as the Head of Drama at Kaipara College and Michael Park School and The Auckland Opera Studio. Patrice has a passion and capacity for training and directing young  performers.

Patrice has always had a love of music and as a young girl at St Mary’s College studied music with Sister Joan and Mary Leo. Although she went on to peruse  a career in theatre, music plays a significant role in all her directing work. She is happy to be collaborating with The Auckland Opera studio once again. She has previously directed four operas for the Opera Studio; Idomineo, The Seven Deadly Sins, La Sonambula and Cosi Fan Tutti.
