About the Event
For the Second year The Auckland Opera Studio will be presenting its winter series of Concerts at the wonderfully Inspirational Sculptureum. 2019 offers 3 concerts, bringing to Matakana the best of New Zealand’s young Operatic Vocal talent at this very moment carving out their prospective careers in the UK, Europe and the US. Mostly back for a short Summer (Winter) break they have managed to grace us with their presence between Family and other commitments.
The concert dates are as follows.
June 22, 5pm: Filipe Manu and Natasha Wilson (with collaborative pianist Somi Kim)
July 13, 5pm: Amelia Berry and Friends.
August 17, 5pm: Eliza Boom and Friends.
Amelia is a seasoned performer on the New Zealand Operatic scene having performed several lead roles for the NZ Opera Company. Graduating with a Masters from Manhattan School of Music in 2014 she stayed living and working in New York but has more recently moved to London where she now resides. Starting out as an emerging Artist for NZ Opera in 2011, she went on to sing Zerlina in Don Giovanni in 2013. Subsequent roles include Musetta in La Boheme, Cunegonda in Candide, Frasquita in Carmen, Yum Yum in The Mikado, Joanna in Sweeney Todd. Clorinda in La Cenerentola, and First Lady in the Magic Flute.
As of today she is certainly one of New Zealand’s “First Ladies” when it come to young stars on the National Opera Scene.
