About the Event
Sol goes solo…..
For several years now the Sol3Mio boys, well known to New Zealand audiences, have been pursuing their own independent solo careers. With brother Pene bouncing around the likes of the Bolshoi Theatre and Paris Opera, and cousin Moses venturing into acting and composing, they can’t always be singing together.
Amitai also has his path to solo stardom, with upcoming engagements in Paris, Compiegne, Toronto and Shenzhen.
In March he appears as the Tenor soloist in the APO’s Beethoven 9th and in September as Jupiter in New Zealand Opera’s production of Handel’s “Semele”.
For 2020 Amitai brings something a little different.
With his own special South Sea Island Charm and friends from near and far, this year’s picnic promises to be full of surprises.
Accompanying Amitai are friends:
Amelia Berry, one of Australasia’s leading Sopranos,
Joel Amosa, Bass-Baritone and winner of last year's Lexus Competition,
Ipu Laga’aia, New Zealand’s young Tenor Superstar on the rise, and
Tayla Alexander, a young Soprano with a great future who delighted us last year.
So please do come join us again, (picnic in hand) under the starry skies of Matakana Valley and enjoy what promises to be a very special summer evening presented by the Auckland Opera Studio.
Important details:
The concert starts at 5.30pm, and we expect it will run for approximately 3 hours with a 20 minute interval.
The Opera Picnic gate and parking will open at 4.30pm so you have plenty of time to settle in for your picnic before the concert starts. It is about a 500m walk from the gate over lawn to the picnic concert area so make sure you are mobile and can carry all your provisions.
Free parking is in Ward Road which is immediately on the right just after the narrow bridge on Matakana Valley Road as you head out of Matakana (about 3kms from Matakana). The entrance to the Opera Picnic is directly opposite the parking entrance.
Bring your own picnic and refreshments, rugs, chairs, whatever you need to be comfortable. The lawn has a slope towards the stage - we recommend rugs and low chairs on the slope, and more upright chairs will be on the flatter area at the top. We are providing some chairs. You can view the stage from all areas while you enjoy your picnic.
NO food or drinks are provided on site, but there are plenty of portaloos!
Make sure you bring your printed tickets, or have them ready to scan on your phone. This will help us get you in the gate more efficiently. If you have neither we can admit you by name but this may take longer. Cash sale only tickets will be available on the night.
Bring hats, cardigans or whatever clothing is suited to the evening.
No pets please.
We are very grateful that Robin and SImon Barclay have opened their wonderful garden for our picnic.
Please respect this - do no wander into private areas, and be careful not to damage any plants.
This is a ZERO waste ZERO impact event so at the end of the night please make sure you take all rubbish home with you.
Donations:
We appreciate the generosity of Simon and Robin Barclay inviting us into their glorious garden..
If you are also able to make a donation then this would be most appreciated, and will be used for Auckland Opera Studio teaching activity in 2020.
