ELIZA BOOM

SOPRANO

Soprano Eliza Boom grew up on the stage, singing with her family. Eliza completed her BMus at Vision College (2014), focusing on classical singing while also developing versatility in musical theatre and contemporary music. She did her Honour’s year (2015) and a Post-graduate Certificate in Opera Studies (2016) at the University of Waikato studying under Dame Malvina Major. Eliza’s roles and performances include the Countess in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, Leatitia in Menotti’s The Old Maid and the Thief, Haydn’s Missa in tempore belli, Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de confessore and Schubert’s Mass in G.

Eliza is a 2017 Dame Malvina Major Scholar with New Zealand Opera, taking part in their productions of The Mikado (ensemble; understudy Pitti-sing) and Carmen(ensemble). She also sang Norina in the New Zealand Opera in Schools production of Don Pasquale (2017).

A frequent student at the New Zealand Opera School, in 2016 Eliza won the school’s Dame Sister Mary Leo Scholarship. Eliza was selected as a member of the inaugural Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation Singer Development Programme in 2016 and gratefully acknowledges the support of the Kiri Te Kanawa Foundation.

Eliza has been successful in many competitions across the country, winning 1st place in the Becroft Aria (2016), the Hamilton Premier Award (2016) and the Dunedin Aria (2015) as well as 3rd place in the NZ Aria (2016). She has also been awarded a Dame Malvina Major Foundation Arts Excellence Award. In 2016 she was a finalist in the IFAC Australian Singing Competition where she was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester in 2017-18.
